Dine Roundup: Overpass Merchant now serving lunch, Dinner in the Field and more food news

Overpass Merchant opens doors for the lunch crowd

Overpass Merchant has begun serving lunch 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday, after a successful soft opening with dinner service. The lunch menu includes burgers, meatball subs, chicken clubs, three salad options also featured at dinner (our pick is the grilled tuna salad with fried shallots and an Asian-style dressing) and more.

Owners Nick Hufft and partner Lon Marchand previously told 225 Dine to expect a weekend brunch menu in late April or early May, and on a visit this Tuesday, the brunch list was already included on the menu clipboard. We took a peek and saw the chicken and sweet potato beignets dish is making an appearance, as is french toast and a variety of biscuits. Start planning your leisurely brunches now!

Alexander’s to hold pop-up market this weekend

Alexander’s Highland Market will host the grocery’s largest pop-up farmers market to date on Sunday, May 1, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The market will feature three dozen local farmers and food vendors showcasing their food, as well as Pennington Biomedical Research Center nutritionists offering samples of recipes and discussing healthy eating.

Junior League of Baton Rouge will sell copies of their award-winning cookbooks, and Food Network star Jay Ducote will offer a cooking demo of his brisket tacos, a preview of the eatery he’s set to open in the upcoming White Star Market.

The event is free and open to the public.

Dinner in the Field set for this Sunday

Slow Food Baton Rouge’s Dinner in the Field, which features local chefs serving courses sourced from local farms, takes place Sunday, May 1, 4-7:30 p.m., on the grounds of the Baton Rouge Gallery. The event coincides with the gallery’s “Before the Fork” exhibition, which attendees can visit during the dinner.

Ticket prices vary. Check the event site for more details.
