Dine Roundup: News on Curbside Burgers; Louie’s to cook for Obama

Construction set to begin on Curbside Burgers’ storefront location

Nearly six years after Curbside owner and chef Nick Hufft opened his food truck in Baton Rouge, local diners will soon be able to enjoy the eclectic and original burgers at the chef’s own sit-down restaurant.

Hufft left Baton Rouge for a few years to sling his burgers at the New Orleans Barcadia, returning to the Capital City when Barcadia opened another location here at LSU’s North Gates. The brick-and-mortar Curbside restaurant will be at 4158 Government St., next to Calandro’s Supermarket. Hufft tells Daily Report he will rent the building from the Calandro family.

Obama to get the Louie’s treatment during Baton Rouge trip

According to WBRZ, part of President Barack Obama’s itinerary in Baton Rouge Thursday will include getting his greasy spoon on with food from Louie’s Café.

That’s not to say he and his detail of staff, secret service and media will all be cramming into the café at LSU’s North Gates for those delicious hash browns. The local news channel reports that Louie’s owner Jimmy Wetherford was contacted by organizers of the McKinley High School event—where Obama will give a speech Thursday morning just a few blocks away—to bring over a spread of their traditional breakfast favorites and Southern specialties.

According to media reports, Obama arrives in Baton Rouge this evening. He’ll be greeted at the airport by Gov. John Bel Edwards and then head to a downtown hotel where he’ll be staying for the night. Then, he and Edwards will probably hit the bars on Third Street for a fun night on the town.

(We’re joking on that last part, but one can dream.)
