Southeastern Grocers, the parents company and home of BI-LO, Harveys Supermarkets and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, raised a good chunk of change for the Wounded Warrior project this Fourth of July.
During the holiday, the supermarket chain announced it would donate all profits to the Wounded Warrior Project’s Independence Program, which provides personalized treatment plans for veterans. The amount of money raised was more than $3 million.
Donations were raised through contributions made at the Southeastern Grocers 790 stores across the country. The Baton Rouge area has six Winn-Dixie locations. Zachary and Prairieville each also have a Winn-Dixie.

Checkers looking to re-enter Baton Rouge market
Fast food chain Checkers thinks there is plenty of room for one more burger option in the Capital City.
According to an article from Daily Report, Checkers has an ambitious growth plan and is looking to open 10 to 15 restaurants in the Baton Rouge market.
Vice president of franchise development Jennifer Durham says the timeframe depends on how many franchisees Checkers can line up. Currently, one Checkers franchisee in Lake Charles is looking at options in Baton Rouge.
