On the road: Breaux Bridge’s barbecue championship June 13

If you want some of the best barbecue in town, take a quick drive to Breaux Bridge this weekend.
Smoky Breaux’s BBQ in the Parc cook-off and state championship kicks off Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m. The event takes place at Parc Hardy, 1290 Rees St. A musical performance from Dirt Road Band starts the day, followed by barbecue tasting. Todd O’Neill and the Brazos Huval Music Conservatory Group will also perform.
More than 25 teams from across the state will be showing off their St. Louis and baby back-style ribs, brisket and chicken. Proceeds from the event benefit the Brain Injury Association of Louisiana.

Wristbands for people’s choice judging will be available for the first 125 people at $5. Johnson’s Boucanière (writer’s note: this is seriously one of my all-time favorite Lafayette restaurants) will also provide $5 pulled pork sandwiches.
