Lip service with Kismet’s Caitlin Picou

Caitlin Picou, founder of local cosmetics brand Kismet, shares how to find and wear the right lip color

BurnoutNEWRed
such as Kismet’s Burnout

Complements: universally flattering for all skin tones and hair and eye colors
Wear it with: “For red lips, I prefer a more classic look in an outfit. Stick to solid fabrics to make the lips become the centerpiece,” Picou says.
Bonus: This red shade particularly makes green eyes pop, and the blue undertones in the lipstick make teeth appear whiter.

NakedGypsyNEWNude
such as Kismet’s Naked Gypsy

Complements: fair or ebony skin tones; brown eyes; all hair colors
Wear it with: “Casual jeans and a cute colorful top—or if you prefer a dramatic eye for the evening, Naked Gypsy plays down the lips so the eyes can pop,” she says.

WildflowerBerry
such as Kismet’s Wildflower

Complements: fair and medium skin; blue eyes; blond or brown hair
Wear it with: “Wildflower really stands out with lighter spring clothing, like a fabulous white boho top and a pair of light washed denim,” she says.

TequilaSunriseNEWOrange
such as Kismet’s Tequila Sunrise

Complements: medium to ebony skin tones; blue or brown eyes; dark hair
Wear it with: “A bold, dramatic lip calls for a more simplistic outfit. But I wouldn’t be afraid to wear some beautiful florals with this orange-hued lip,” Picou says.

ViviannaNEWPurple
such as Kismet’s Vivianna

Complements: fair to medium skin; brown eyes; all hair colors
Wear it with: “A deep berry lip is a match made in heaven with a more ‘New York’-styled outfit. A slick little black number is always a great pairing,” she says.

CrushedcoralNEWCoral
such as Kismet’s Crushed Coral

Complements: medium skin; blue and brown eyes; blond or brown hair
Wear it with: “You can wear it daily with some distressed jeans and a precious top or with your favorite sundress to an event—works with nearly every style,” she says.

Kismet lip colors are $16 and are available locally at Apricot Lane, Hemline, Lukka, Mint, Mod Salon, Posh Boutique and Verde Beauty Studio.
