Roughly 18 months after launching their business, the owners of Country Table have announced they’ll make their final deliveries of local produce to area homes next week.

“We have given it a good run and our best shot, but due to market conditions and overall demand for the services it has been proven to be a long road,” reads a note from Country Table sent to customers Tuesday morning.

Lauren Beth Slowik and Kallie Culotta Svendson launched the startup in October 2013 after coming upon the local produce delivery concept in other cities. The business offered to deliver straight to customers’ doorsteps produce that was grown within 100 miles of Baton Rouge. Membership included a basket of 10 to 14 in-season fruits and vegetables per week, with the option to add other goods. Shortly after the startup got rolling, the concept proved popular and Country Table had more than 200 customers signed up within the first four months of business.

“We feel strongly that the concept has made an impact on many and we are very thankful,” reads the letter to customers.

Although Country Table is closing, another fresh food home delivery service remains. Indie Plate, which was launched shortly after Country Table at the tail end of 2013, continues to offer home delivery services in the Baton Rouge area.
