Extreme Burger: Ambrosia Bakery’s Greek Burger

Finding a great Greek restaurant in Baton Rouge is fairly easy to do. Finding a great Greek burger? Prepare to do some research. One surprising version we’ve found is in an equally surprising location: Ambrosia Bakery. Known for its pastries, cakes and event catering, Ambrosia also has an extensive dine-in and takeout deli menu for breakfast and lunch. A highlight is the bakery’s hefty Greek Burger. The deli’s head chef Jude Moran developed this version, featuring Black Angus beef and all the standard fixings, plus red onion, sweet, tangy bits of sun-dried tomato and crumbly, salty feta cheese. It’s all served on one of the bakery’s specially made, toasted buns. Add the optional bacon and (more) cheese, and you just might be thanking the Greek gods that you stopped at Ambrosia for lunch.

EXTREME BURGERS

We received so much feedback, suggestions and, yes, criticism for the burgers we highlighted in our March issue’s “Extreme Burgers” cover story, we decided to keep the conversation going. Each month in the Taste section, we’ll feature another unique burger from in and around the Capital City. Send us your suggestions for the burgers you think we should try to [email protected] and read up on all the burgers we’ve tasted at 225batonrouge.com/food.
