Celebrate National Farmers Market Week in the Capital City

The Red Stick Farmers Market will host a bevy of special activities Saturday to spotlight National Farmers Market week. This year is the USDA’s 15th annual celebration of farmers markets across the country. According to the USDA, Louisiana is among the 10 states with the largest percentage increase of markets, alongside Tennessee, Texas, Hawaii and others.

This weekend’s festivities start at 8 a.m. at Fifth and Main streets. Chef Kelley McCann of Galatoire’s Bistro will demonstrate how to use late summer ingredients in weekday family meals in the Fresh from the Market cooking show at 10 a.m. at the Main Street Market. Red Stick Sprouts, the children’s educational component of the market, will also host a special art activity where participants can create “I love my farmers market” artwork to be displayed at the markets.
