Rock Legend: Inspired by Saint Laurent
The menswear fashion shows have come & gone, but I keep finding myself scrolling through them for inspiration for my own wardrobe. The Saint Laurent collection was my favorite this season! I could see Mick Jagger wearing it as much as a youngin’. The collection was more “American” than the traditional French vibe of the Saint Laurent brand (sidenote: RIP being able to use YSL as a reference). It was filled with desert ponchos, band geek chic, and a pinch of Woodstock-ready garb. I immediately thought of one of my favorite movies, the 1976 version of A Star is Born. I have previously spoken on my love for the film, but I cannot stress it enough… it. is. Great. My imagination went wild as I thought about how amazing Kris Kristofferson would have looked in the entire collection! Any fans out there know what I mean?
Back to the fashion…
To summer the look up a bit, I used light cotton fabrics for breathability and head index comfort. A lightweight print blazer is likely more than your usual daytime gear, but it’s the special pieces that make you stand out. If you’re up for a sequin striped blazer like in the SL show, go for it, but a cotton, washed-out version is a solid choice. The two oxfords give you options as far as print mixing goes. The left is bleached denim with a horizontal stripe, which would contrast the vertical stripes on the blazer. The other has tiny swirls, making for a more adventurous mix of prints. The key to mixing prints is to have 1 large print (the wide vertical stripes) and 1 small print (swirls). Both colors are more muted and well-suited for summer wear. A good pair of selvage denim is essential to a man’s wardrobe! The dark indigo wash of this pair is pleasing year round. Whether you are going for a casual or dressy look, the choice of shoe is key. Formal? Leather. Informal? Brushed suede. Both options are in the same shoe family, but the color and choice of material changes everything. Lastly, carry all your goods in the most luscious backpack of all time! Have you ever held one of these babies in your arms? It is the closest thing to Heaven in leather form. Rest assured, you will carry this with you for ages and, with time, wear, and tear, the nicks and scratches will make it look even better.
