Updated: Potato Salad Kickstarter loses money, still has more than $40K

A Columbus, Ohio, man now has enough money to make a lifetime’s worth of potato salad. Zack Brown started a Kickstarter campaign to make a potato salad earlier this month. His initial goal was $10 to buy the meager supplies needed for a dish he had never before prepared. With 23 days left to go on his campaign, it has received more than $71,000. Brown is still unsure what type of potato salad to make, but plans to hold a party once the campaign ends, serving up whatever he creates. However the money is used, Brown’s potato salad pet project has elicited a somewhat divided response. While some think the Kickstarter campaign is positive in its approach and humor, others, such as NPR, think the money would be better spent on more rewarding projects.

Though the Kickstarter campaign had earned more than $71K on Wednesday, the campaign had lost nearly $30K by Thursday morning. The Huffington Post speculates that many supporters might have canceled their pledge.
