Who doesn’t love a good rivalry?

Coke vs. Pepsi. The Beatles vs. the Stones. Liberal vs. conservative. The SEC vs. the rest of college football. Choosing sides feeds our innate enthusiasm for competition and reaffirms our sense of identity. Rivalries fuel our desire to succeed, and they keep us from resting on our laurels. In short, they are timeless motivators.

Even on the outside looking in, these stiff competitions continually fascinate us as spectators.

In Baton Rouge, both subtle and obvious rivalries emerge in nearly every facet of life: on the table, on the athletic field, in business and in politics. We’ve chosen several that help reveal where we are as a community with cultural evolutions that are picking up pace.
