Fast Break: Philly Me Up

Established in 2007, Philly Me Up is going strong at its Jefferson Highway location (8775 Jefferson Hwy.). Philly steak-style hoagies and cheesesteak sandwiches are the restaurant’s signature item, for sure. If you’re feeling sinister, the restaurant offers numerous takes on the sandwich, including “Da Gumbo,” featuring chicken, shrimp, sausage and homemade gumbo gravy.

However, the locally owned eatery has some other options on its menu that shouldn’t be ignored. If I’m not in the mood for a cheesesteak, I go for the chipotle turkey club. Served on a toasted Amoroso’s roll (hearth-baked bread out of Philadelphia), this sandwich comes hot and delicious. The sandwich features sliced turkey, crisp bacon, chipotle mayo to give it a little kick (but not too much), and provolone cheese. Purple onion, tomato, lettuce, olive oil and oregano round out the toppings. Served with French fries, this is a filling lunch for a little more than $10.

Philly Me Up is open Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Call 248-0006 for more information. —Matthew Sigur
