Record Store Day in Baton Rouge – Atomic Pop Shop and Lagniappe Records have big plans for this weekend

Since 2007, independent record stores across the nation have been celebrating Record Store Day.

For the uninitiated, think of it as a music appreciation day, where you go to the local record store and do something you haven’t done in awhile—buy a physical copy of someone’s music. For audiophiles, Record Store Day is a special kind of holiday where our favorite artists and labels release never-before-heard tracks and collections that are essentials for our collections.

Simply put, it’s a day to come together and enjoy the culture of the record store and the role they play in the community. In Baton Rouge, we are lucky to have Kerry Beary’s Atomic Pop Shop and Lagniappe Records, both of which are celebrating Record Store Day this Saturday with all-day events and live music.

At the Atomic Pop Shop, Hot Llamas will perform at noon, followed by Painted Hands at 2 p.m. Singer-songwriter Clay Parker will also drop by the store for a special acoustic set. The store is located at 2963 Government St. and will be open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. RSVP and get more information.
