Fast Break: Sandwiches at Alexander’s Market
A year ago, Alexander’s Highland Market opened at 18111 Highland Market Dr. giving Baton Rougeans another option for grocery shopping and local delicacies. The 37,000-square-foot store is packed with the trendiest items, giving places like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s a run for their money. Alexander’s café is also making a name for itself thanks to its abundance of choice as well as fresh flavors when it comes to sandwiches, burgers, salads, wraps and soups.
For $6.99, you can get a sandwich with your choice of chips or tangy black bean salsa. You can’t go wrong with the Cajun Turkey & Brie on ciabatta. The sandwich has just the right amount of mayo to go along with its spring lettuce mix and pepper jelly. The combination of spicy, but not-too-spicy turkey is a good pair with the creamy Brie. It’s a steal and makes the café a go-to stop for those needing a quick, affordable lunch. If you want to splurge, you can throw in a side of sweet potato waffle fries for a few extra dollars. —Matthew Sigur
