Baton Rouge's #1 lifestyle magazine since 2005

Preview: Tess Brunet, Julie Odell – Lagniappe Records is Baton Rouge’s newest record store and should be a point of interest for local music.

Lagniappe Records is Baton Rouge’s newest record store and should be a sizeable point of interest for local music lovers in the near future. The store opened in late July, operating out of a space within the private residence of musician Tess Brunet and her beau Patrick Hodgkins.

The store stocks a collection of vintage vinyl and new releases, based on the eclectic tastes of its proprietors.

Whether working on the label or artist side of the industry, Brunet has spent her life immersed in sound. That wealth of experience can be found in the store’s record bins. She is currently busy working on a record of her own.

If the variety of records wasn’t enough of a reason to visit Lagniappe Records, the space doubles as a backdrop for intimate, limited-seating performances.
The owners will christen the store with its first live show this Sunday afternoon, presented by American Thrift and featuring sets from Brunet and New Orleans songwriter Julie Odell, who is fresh off an extended stay in Ireland.

These performers are meant to be heard in a smaller setting. This town has those intimate venues in droves. Get out there and experience something up close and personal. The show starts at 3 p.m. Tickets are $8 and available here.
