Music: Best Bets

Earlier this year, Dr. John won a Grammy for Best Blues Album for 2012’s Locked Down, an album produced by the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach. It wasn’t so much a new sound for the legendary New Orleans musician, but an assemblage of all his best traits, amplified by Auerbach’s scruffy guitar and ready for a new generation of listeners. He did a festival tour this summer, and a day after playing the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston, Dr. John hits the Manship Theatre Sept. 8 for a decidedly more intimate show. manshiptheatre.org

SEPT. 21: Starting off as a husband-and-wife duo, Philadelphia band Bleeding Rainbow brings lo-fi indie rock to Mud and Water.
SEPT. 22: Ra Ra Riot brings its peppy, orchestral indie pop to the Spanish Moon. thespanishmoon.com
IN NEW ORLEANS: Mumford & Sons’ show at Mardi Gras World, rescheduled from June, is set for Sept. 16. And here’s a heads-up that Champions Square outside the Superdome will host two big acts sure to draw two very different crowds as part of a fall concert series: Sigur Rós on Oct. 3 and FUN. on Oct. 5.
EARLY NEXT MONTH: Aimee Mann heads to the Manship Theatre Oct. 2, and Arctic Monkeys play the Varsity Theatre Oct. 5.
