Size matters
It’s not just you. LSU football players are bigger than they used to be. But, as it turns out, on average and contrary to what those amazing vintage black-and-whites of slender-looking “linemen” crouched and ready in official team photos of yore might have us believe, today’s players are not all that much heavier than those from a generation ago. Plus, the average player weight seems to have leveled off at roughly 230 pounds.
Our staff looked at the stats by decade, pulling rosters and vitals from 2013, 2003, 1993, 1983 and 1973. Here’s the breakdown of average heights and weights.
