Room for Dessert looking for mid-April opening
A mother-daughter team will open an organic bakery next month near the intersection of Bluebonnet Boulevard and Jefferson Highway. Reanna Townsend and her mother, Denise, are shooting for a mid-April opening for Room for Dessert.
Denise says her daughter has been interested in pastries, cakes and baking since the seventh grade. “[Reanna] has talked about this for a long time,” Denise says. “I thought she was watching too much Food Network, but she has stuck with this idea until after she graduated from college.”
When Reanna returned from getting her culinary degree in Florida and a degree at the University of South Carolina, she started going to Whole Foods and eating better, Denise says. “She told me if she did her bakery, she wanted it to be organic,” Denise says. Room for Dessert will feature organic cheesecake, cake squares, fruit tarts and more, all with a little help from mom, who is a full-time accountant. The work, like the food, doesn’t have an ounce of guilt, Denise says.—Matthew Sigur
