Champagne Dreams
So you forgot to make reservations for one of the area’s many New Year’s Eve parties, and now you’re hustling to throw together your own soiree. If you’re worried about finding the best bubbly for party guests, don’t fret. 225 food writer Maggie Heyn Richardson went to Matherne’s Supermarket on Highland Road for suggestions from general manager Bill Hounshell. The grocery offers holiday specials on champagnes, like the well-balanced Moet & Chandon Imperial ($48) and Segura Viudas Brut Reserva, a cava from Spain ($8). You can also try out a few sparkling wines, like Italian Prosecco, which are big money savers and sure to keep guests happy when the clock strikes midnight.
