My Sugarbelle will bring sweet nostalgia
Bundt cakes were Kasie Coleman’s grandmother’s favorite cakes—she knows this because she helped make them, year after year. “You could call me her apprentice,” Coleman jokes. Now she aims to bring her grandmother’s recipes, along with several of her own, to her soon-to-open bakery, My Sugarbelle, on Plank Road.
The bakery has been a long time coming—Coleman began selling pralines, bundt cakes, teacakes and more out of her home, after a cancer diagnosis left her looking for a change in career. From her store, she’ll serve bundts from the “vintage” collection, which includes all her grandma’s old faves, as well as several varieties of chocolate-flavored, booze-infused, fruit-filled bundts. She will even offer vegan and gluten-free varieties. She’ll also be serving up single-serving “Belle sliders”—two cake tops with a sweet filling, like a softer moon pie—and cupcakes-in-a-jar, which resemble a cupcake sundae. Click here to keep an eye on the Facebook page for her opening date. Coleman hopes to have the doors open by Dec. 15.
