Whispers – Chit-chat, scuttlebutt and scoop

Sources say filming is underway on the much-rumored Edwin Edwards reality show. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the former governor was in talks with Shaun Sanghani of SSS Entertainment, who has ties to Louisiana with Girls, Guns and Gators, the Travel Channel’s Bastrop-set series. Operating under the working title The Governor’s Wife, the show is said to follow the 84-year-old Edwards and his new spouse, thirtysomething Trina Scott Edwards, on their many adventures, including attempts to have a biological child together. “She and Edwin are both popping fertility pills in public,” says 225’s source.

LSU’s showdown with No. 1 Alabama last month featured as many stars on the sidelines as on the field. Renowned film director Spike Lee, on a break from filming his high profile remake of Oldboy in New Orleans, watched the action from the sidelines along with former Tiger and Super Bowl champion Michael Clayton and Olympic hurdler-turned-bobsledder Lolo Jones. Shaquille O’Neal, Ryan Theriot, Kevin Faulk, Charles Alexander, Jacob Hester and Mark Ingram rounded out the lengthy cast of celebrity fans.

Baton Rouge has seen the invasion of flash mobs, but a flash opera? Now, a local group is coordinating to bring the city its first flash-style opera event and fundraiser for the Volunteer Health Corps at the LSU Rural Life Museum this spring.

Working in conjunction with Boston’s Berklee School of Music, Opera Louisiane and Hasbro—creator of the classic board game Operation—the event is slated to feature speed Operation battles, “waiting rooms” created by local designers, nurses administering shots and a variety of live entertainment and food.
