The Amazing Spider-Man (in theaters July 6)
Five years after Tobey Maguire slung his last web as a masked crime-fighter, Marvel Comics is back with a new adaptation of their beloved series Spider-Man. With a new cast led by The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and The Help’s Emma Stone as his brainy object of affection, Gwen Stacy, director Marc Webb is taking the iconic arachnid back to its roots and the heart of the original comics after previous Spidey director Sam Raimi’s quirkier foray into the comic realm.
Garfield portrays Parker as a troubled, bullied teen tortured over the loss of his parents and pining for his first crush. When Parker discovers a briefcase that belonged to his father, the contents lead him on a collision course with a deadly foe in the alter ego of mad scientist Curt Connors as well as to a crossroads in his own twisted destiny. But will Parker use his newfound powers for good or harness them for revenge? Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Sally Field and Martin Sheen co-star. Rated PG-13.
