What’s new – May 2012 issue

A new cupcake bakery called Frosted Cupcakes has opened on Nicholson Drive at Brightside Lane, dishing up tasty gourmet cupcakes in a variety of flavors. Co-owned and operated by LSU alumni Andi Carroll and Kyle Anderman, the bakery is a haven for connoisseurs of the frosted mini cakes. Some hold surprises inside, like sweet peanut butter, pockets of cookie dough or even Dippin’ Dots ice cream.

Thanks to free wi-fi and comfy chairs, students and other night owls have a new place to get a sugar fix or just unwind after a night out. “We really want this to be a place where people feel free to come in and stay awhile,” Carroll says.

Nearly everything at Taco Boudreaux’s is a blend of Mexican and Cajun cuisines, including the Oyster Taco-feller and the Blackened Alligator Fajitas. Located on Sherwood Forest Boulevard at I-12, the restaurant serves enchiladas stuffed with fresh Gulf seafood, and poboys filled with carne Asada, bell peppers and Cajun remoulade sauce. Even the fish tacos feature fresh fried catfish. The drink menu is equally diverse, with 12 Mexican and 12 Louisiana beers and unique cocktail specials like the Mardi Gras Martini—which we happily review here.

Owner Brennan Ledet works hard to make sure his seafood and vegetables are sourced locally as much as possible. “I don’t mind paying a few dollars more for good stuff,” he says. “I know it comes back to you tenfold, because the customers know the difference.”
