Is anything more intriguing than an untried beer? A new bar, a new bottle, a new quirky slogan for the microbrewery that produced it. But what if the taste isn’t to your taste? What if there was a way to predict which beer you’d be more likely to enjoy when you venture into new drinking territory? That’s the goal of the new iPhone and Android app Brew Gene. This app allows you to track the beers you’ve tried and rate them individually, then provides recommendations based on your past ratings; it can also tell you where your favorites might be served or sold nearby, if you’re in the mood for a particular brew. You can even make a beer “watch list” to help you remember the lagers, pilsners, porters and stouts you’ve been meaning to try.
