That old black hole – Tune Up
Philadelphia-based indie rock band Dr. Dog—who some Baton Rougeans know from its previous and critically-acclaimed work, particularly the White Album-in-your-pocket romp Fate, released by New Orleans label Park the Van—return Feb. 7 with its new existentialist-embracing album Be the Void. With a new drummer and multi-instrumentalist aboard, the band makes a Wilco-like move to abandon the well-crafted pop sound it knew so well in favor of cutting loose, playing live and finding out just what can happen in the studio when a formerly meticulous band rides the jagged edge. The result is a blend of fast-paced pop, Ramones-flavored punk and grimy fuzz rock that has learned to stop worrying and love the guitar. drdogmusic.com
