‘Steel’ of a deal

Rock ’em Sock ’em robots were taken to the next level last year in the android boxing drama Real Steel, new this week on DVD. Set in the near future, Hugh Jackman plays a washed up boxer whose only shot at redemption is as a trainer… for a robot. In a seedy underworld where robots are geared up for ruthless competition, Jackman and the 11-year-old boy he is estranged from partner together to train a discarded machine they find in a scrap heap. Forgotten by all, this robot could be their shot at the title and a way for them to finally connect as father and son. Evangeline Lilly and Anthony Mackie co-star. Rated PG-13.
