Hop into Baton Rouge culture
Art, theatre and dance make a magic mix at Baton Rouge Hops, a three-day celebration of all things hip-hop at the Shaw Center for the Arts. Things kick off right at the opening night reception on Friday night at 6 p.m., featuring turntable performances by Kool DJ Supamike, plus two plays: a multi-player version of Bamuthi’s Word Becomes Flesh on the Manship main stage and the poetic coming-of-age tale Paige in Full at the Hartley Vey Studio Theatre, with performances continuing through Sunday. Witness a “Style War” graffiti battle every morning at 11 a.m., a hip-hop fashion show Saturday night, DJ battles, breakdancing battles and a community artist showcase, or take in one of the many dance workshops offered all weekend—whatever your taste, there’s something in store to suit it. Visit manshiptheatre.org for tickets and the full schedule.
