Roundup: Chain restaurants will make kids’ menus healthier … College Drive demolition work clears way for Chick-fil-A

Better options: Parents seeking healthier restaurant meals for their children can start to look forward to more than chicken nuggets and macaroni-and-cheese. At least 19 large restaurant chains—including Burger King, Chili’s and IHOP—have announced that they will include healthier options on their children’s menus. At least 15,000 restaurant locations will focus on increasing servings of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and low-fat dairy. The items will have reduced amounts of fats, sugars and sodium. Less healthy foods like burgers and fries will still be on the menu, but the restaurants say they will do more to promote healthier options. Chick-fil-Hey: The old Derek Chang’s Koto of Japan restaurant on College Drive has been demolished to make room for a new Chick-fil-A restaurant. The building was torn down last week. George Kurz of Kurz & Hebert Commercial Real Estate, who had the listing for the property, says Chick-fil-A has received a building permit and signed a lease for the site. Kurz says construction on the new restaurant should start in the next three months. Chick-fil-A has been rumored for more than a year to be interested in the property across the street from a Walmart Supercenter. The chicken chain has five locations in Baton Rouge.
