The wround-up’s worth it

Congrats to Go Ya Ya, Taco de Paco and Curbside, three of Baton Rouge’s food trucks that were filmed last week for upcoming episodes of the Cooking Channel program, Eat St. The program chose these three because they wanted local trucks that cook a significant amount of their menu on board. This was great exposure for our burgeoning mobile food culture, which enjoys a rabid following of media savvy foodies who track the trucks’ whereabouts daily and provide inspired commentary on Facebook and Twitter about favorite menu items. In fact, part of the trucks’ collective schtick is the back-and-forth that takes place through social media. But that doesn’t mean there’s not also a charming face-to-face culture developing, especially during the weekly food truck Wround Up, so spelled to keep you from forgetting it happens on Wednesdays. This is truly hidden Baton Rouge, as it takes place in a grassy area you’d otherwise be unaware of behind Chelsea’s and the Royal Standard. That’s the so-called “Beauvoir Park” you’ll see listed on some of the truck’s Facebook pages. Sometimes there’s an acoustic band. There are tables, and plenty of grass. The vibe is shabby-chic and cheerful. If you’re remotely close, it’s worth biking, since parking is limited. It’s a soulful little event that’s worth your time.
