‘Somewhere’ but here

Sofia Coppola’s latest wealthy character study, Somewhere, arrived last fall to mixed reviews but great interest. Stephen Dorff returns to a lead role in a major release for the first time in years as a wasted-on-the-way actor who finds himself drifting off into oblivion at the Chateau Marmont when his estranged 11-year-old daughter re-enters his life and forces him to reexamine his priorities. Up-and-comer Elle Fanning arrives as a true on-screen talent and one of several forces aiming to either uplift or drown Dorff’s bad boy Johnny Marco. Michelle Monaghan and Chris Pontius co-star.
