Roundup: Cane’s ranks among top quick-service restaurant chains … Coffee shop shut down due to unpaid taxes … Bruno Restaurant Group talks cafeteria plans for state Capitol
Cane’s can-do: Raising Cane’s has been ranked as one of the top quick-service restaurant chains in the country for customer satisfaction. Cane’s ended up in the top four of the Sandelman & Associates’ Quick-Track study, which tracked 136 chains. The Baton Rouge-based chicken-tender chain was rated “excellent” overall by 62% of recent customers. The Sandelman & Associates Quick-Track 2009 study surveyed more than 95,000 fast-food customers nationwide. Not so perky: Visitors to Perks Coffee & Tea on Perkins Road Tuesday found locked doors and a sign from police saying the business had been shut down owing to unpaid sales taxes. According to officials in the city-parish Sales Tax Department, the popular neighborhood coffee shop’s owner, David J. Cattar Sr., had a lien placed against him on May 6, 2010, for $22,500 in unpaid taxes. On Aug. 30, 2010, Cattar had a civil judgment in the amount of $18,818 come down against him. The Louisiana Workforce Commission placed a lien on the business Oct. 25 for $87.82. Once the liens and judgment are paid off, Perks will be able to re-open. Lunch at the house: The owners of Bonanno’s Fine Catering, Yvette Marie’s Café and Mellow Mushroom are aiming to re-open The House Dining Room in the state Capitol on March 14, according to the Bruno Restaurant Group co-owner Jay Bruno. The Louisiana House of Representatives recently awarded the Bruno group the contract to operate the cafeteria. They will pay $1,000 a month to operate the 79-year-old facility, which has been shuttered since Jan. 1, following the death of longtime operator Jim Leming. The dining room will be open 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with extended hours for legislative sessions and catering available for in-house events. Hot and cold breakfasts and lunches will be served, Bruno says, with a full grill and plate lunches.
