Watch your ‘Stepfather’

The Stepfather plays on one of our archetypical fears. Namely, that the stranger in our house—be it a new parent, an adopted child or a mysterious neighbor—really means us harm. Lifetime makes a killing (no pun intended) by churning out this stuff, and this Friday a remake of this 1987 thriller lands in theaters. Featuring Nip/Tuck’s Dylan Walsh as the titular psycho in family values clothing, Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley and Pineapple Express gal Amber Heard star as the teens that first discover his hidden identity. Sela Ward portrays the formerly single mom with low standards and no B.S. filter, which is a poor combination when your new guy is a rock star and a cad, but really backfires if he’s the fugitive murdering type. Rated PG-13.
