Round-up: Southern Belle Sandwich Company closes … Miriam Juban receives humanitarian award
Closing belle: The Southern Belle Sandwich Company has closed, selling to an Illinois company. Southern Belle distributed sandwiches to convenience and retail stores in southern Louisiana; Mobile and Montgomery, Ala.; and Crestview, Fla. The sale comes a few weeks after the Food and Drug Administration and federal marshals raided the plant, citing unsanitary conditions. Miriam Juban, humanitarian: Miriam Juban, co-founder of Juban’s Restaurant, received a Culinary Humanitarian Award at the Louisiana Cookin’ “Chefs to Watch” dinner on Monday. She was one of five chefs throughout the state who were awarded this honor, granted for her extensive volunteer work with Pro-Start and the American Cancer Foundation, among others.
