Finders Keeper
Alpha Dog director Nick Cassavetes returns to the melodrama that launched a thousand weepy films with 2004’s hit The Notebook, this Friday with My Sister’s Keeper. It’s a big leap out of romantic comedies for Cameron Diaz, who stars here as the mother of a leukemia-stricken daughter whose younger sister has been used unabashedly to keep her sister alive. But when the little sister seeks medical emancipation from her parents, the family reaches a crisis of conscience. Based on the novel by the recent novel by Jodi Piccoult, the film examines both unconventional family dynamics and the struggles that all parents and children go through to understand and love one another. Jason Patric, Abigail Breslin and Sofia Vassilieva co-star. Rated PG-13.
