Riffs: Gabe Daigle, singer and guitarist, The Myrtles
“Back in 1995, my band Becky Sharp rolled into Washington, D.C., to play a set at the infamous 9:30 Club. We were booked as the opening act for an up-and-coming Canadian performer being courted by every major label, including Madonna’s own label, Maverick Records. Thirty minutes into the gig, Alanis Morissette starts throwing a fit and leaves the venue in tears. Fortunately for us, she also left her deli tray behind. We all knew she was going to be huge after watching her emotionally driven set. We also ate well that night.”
