Lecture looks at Ernest Gaines’ childhood home
Literary legend Ernest Gains was born in Cherie Quarters, the original slave quarter at River Lake Plantation, and he grew up there until he was 15. Ruth Laney presents a lecture about the place and people surrounding this tin-roofed cypress cabin in Pointe Coupee Parish, mentioned in his books The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman and A Lesson Before Dying. 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carville branch library. Free.
