Cajun flavor at Bergeron’s – Hot Lunch

Less than a 10-minute drive from downtown Baton Rouge lies a favorite Port Allen joint where locals have long satisfied their cravings for Cajun food, and a recent expansion makes it even easier to grab a mid-day taste of South Louisiana.

Bergeron’s Boudin and Cajun Meats lies on Highway 415, which runs conveniently between Interstate 10 and Highway 190.

Owner Moonie Bergeron expanded the business last year with a new dining room large enough to handle regular Zydeco and Cajun bands. There’s an old-fashioned wood floor for dancing.

But if all you take across the river with you is an appetite, then lunch is the perfect time to visit. The boudin po-boy ($4.99, pictured) is a smoky, decadent delight on tender French bread. Seasoned pork and spicy rice dance with cool lettuce and tomato and a generous swipe of creamy mayo. Perfectly crispy fries complement a pair of daily lunch special choices ($6.50 to $6.99), which include stuffed pork chops on Monday, St. Louis-style barbecue ribs on Wednesday, and Thursday’s special of boneless fried chicken breast topped with Swiss cheese and seafood stuffing. ?bergeronsboudin.com
