Placido Domingo, Yolanda Adams help reopen historic theater

Dozens of top-notch artists and entertainers are joining on stage Jan. 8-17 for grand reopening of the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts in New Orleans’ Louis Armstrong Park, closed since Hurricane Katrina. The celebration kicks off at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 with a free New Orleans All-Star Review, featuring Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins, Irma Thomas, Marva Wright and others. Yolanda Adams and Irvin Mayfield perform a tribute to Jackson with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16, and Placido Domingo (pictured) performs opera pieces at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17.
