In stores and on Christmas lists, The Dark Knight arrives
The movie that made $530 million in the U.S. alone last summer is new on DVD and Blu-Ray this week. And boy does The Dark Knight have it all: stunning cinematography—including a handful of megawatt IMAX action sequences—pulse pounding music, thrills, chills and laughs, and a screenplay that completely transcends the comic book genre. Best of all are the riveting performances from Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart and Gary Oldman, and as everyone knows by now a landmark, zeitgeist role for the late great Heath Ledger. His anarchist Joker is, as he so eloquently puts it in the film, an agent of chaos. “This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object,” he tells Batman in the film. “I have a feeling we’re going to be doing this forever.” If only that were so. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman co-star. Rated PG-13.?
