Riffs: Susie Labry, actress

“I enjoyed doing Blaze, the 1989 film starring Paul Newman about Louisiana Governor Earl Long, the most because I love politics. It had old-time country, bluegrass and blues, Louisiana history, the South, and it was filmed locally. I was seen best in this movie above all the 185 others I’ve been in as a featured extra. The atmosphere at the Capitol was splendid, and they say it was authentic like it was back then. I loved the ‘old timey’ atmosphere, dressing in period wardrobe, going to see the governor, going to the Legislature. The men and women were all attractive, very charming, and had genteel Southern personalities. I also knew not only the actors, but actual characters like Jimmie Davis and Jesse Bankston. I felt like myself. I love them Capitol steps, where history is made and where my history was made.”
