Man up with Downey Jr.

Few thought the best scenes in a movie about a wealthy industrialist flying around in a metal get-up would be those that aren’t action-packed. But what Robert Downey Jr. does with Iron Man Tony Stark is to make him likeable and charming, but also relatable. He’s one of Marvel’s most human of superheroes, and who’s more fantastic and fallible than Downey Jr.? Stark’s change from misanthropic warmonger to terror-fighting crusader is just an exaggerated symbol for Downey’s A-list resurgence. Last summer’s first blockbuster is out now on DVD and Blue-ray, and co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges co-star. Rated PG-13.
