A weekend for The Women

Call it Gossip Girl Silver, but The Women opens Friday and sees Murphy Brown director Diane English remaking the 1939 comedy, this time with Meg Ryan as an aging country club wife who’s husband has been cheating on her with a seductive shop girl played by Eva Mendes. Murphy Brown herself, Candace Bergen, pops up, as does Debra Messing of Will & Grace in one of her more prominent roles since the end of that hit TV series. With her gal pals providing advice and plenty of dish, Ryan must decide whether to move on or risk all-out war with her much younger competition. Annette Bening and Jada Pinkett Smith co-star. Rated PG-13.
