Riffs: Big Boy, host of nationally syndicated Big Boy’s Neighborhood

“The state of hip hop is good, and rap music is doing even better. But I think we can step it up. There are a lot of cats on stage and in the studio that are doing great things, but there are others I wonder about. This has always been true, but there seems to be an over saturation of it now. Some of them need to put a little more effort in, need that in the game.

When it comes to the actual business side of hip hop and rap, we are doing great. At one point cats were just performing for the love of it but weren’t getting paid. Now they are beginning to see the money and respect they deserve. And we are crossing over into areas where many thought rap music could never survive and thrive.

Is there room to grow? Definitely. And I’m looking forward to it.”
