U-High alumnus Steven Soderbergh was originally slated to direct this film in the late 1990s, but when development bogged he went and won some Oscars for other projects. Star George Clooney kept at it and directs the finished product, a light-hearted screwball comedy set in the 1920s at the dawn of professional football in the United States. Clooney plays an aging football great who sticks around because he doesn’t have a lot of other options in the career department. When the league is on the skids, he comes up with a plan to make a star out of a young war hero played by The Office’s John Krasinski. Things go well until a nosy reporter played by Renee Zellweger starts snooping into the new football star’s past and gets involved romantically with both Clooney and Krasinski. Rated PG-13.
