As soon as temporary shelters at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center and LSU Parker Coliseum opened after Hurricane Katrina, Baton Rouge volunteers arrived en masse to scoop poop, distribute supplies, feed, water, walk and care for thousands of other people’s animals.
