Mestizo’s Mango Margarita, $6.50

This should be a snowball flavor. This should be all flavors, or at least some kind of drink of the month for a city that turns from sweaty to sweltering every August, with little more than the onset of LSU football to keep it going. Face it. No matter how hot it is outside, Baton Rouge’s food is always going to be spicy, so it makes sense that our summer drinks teeter toward the saccharine side of things. This treat may be sweet, but it’s not weak. The 10-oz. pint for $6.50 packs plenty of punch, so the large bowl-shaped version might do you in. The mango holds down the tequila bite well, and its passion flavor doesn’t quit. The drink is frozen but not so that it hurts your tongue (or your head). It’s sugary, but not so that it hurts your teeth. The mango margarita is all about balance, and it’s all good.
