Louisiana’s new laureate announced, gives reading

Louisiana is ushering in a new poet laureate, Dr. Darrell Bourque, currently professor emeritus of English at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Louisiana novelist Ernest Gaines hails him as “a gifted poet with a vision as powerful as his poetic voice.” Dr. Bourque will present a reading of his poetry at the Louisiana State Library tonight, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested.
