This month was jam-packed with new openings, from a steakhouse by a famed chef to a new breakfast spot slinging mammoth biscuits. But September wasn’t just about restaurants. A fitness studio, a bakery and a new Perkins Rowe shop round out the packed lineup of newness.

Emeril’s Chop House
Located inside L’Auberge Casino Hotel
L’Auberge Casino Hotel’s dining options have been kicked up a notch with the opening of Emeril’s Chop House, a new signature restaurant by chef Emeril Lagasse. Emeril’s Chop House takes over the space formerly occupied by 18 Steak, right in front of the casino floor entrance. Patrons can expect a Lagasse-curated menu of appetizers, soups, salads and sides with Louisiana flair. Besides refreshing the space, the culinary team worked with Lagasse’s top chefs to create a menu that included the chef’s favorites and brought new bites to Baton Rouge.
Parish Biscuit Co.

Baton Rougeans can get their fill of the most important meal of the day at new biscuit-slinging eatery Parish Biscuit Co. Born in Lafayette, the eatery opened its first Baton Rouge location on West Lee Drive, in the spot that housed Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and, more recently, La Chilanga Taco House. And while “biscuit” is in the name, there’s more to this breakfast and brunch spot. On the menu, find overflowing shrimp po-boys, fried fish and grits, pancakes, bread pudding bites and other tasty options. Still, biscuits make surprise appearances, like in the breading of the boudin balls and the base of its French toast.
Twistella Cafe
630 Arlington Creek Center Blvd., Ste. D
This new cafe near LSU’s campus adds something unique to Baton Rouge’s matcha scene. Twistella’s matcha is imported from Japan. Owner Abdul Obeh says he wanted to share a more authentic flavor with his customers, since he hasn’t been able to find it since moving to Baton Rouge. Along with matcha, the cafe serves coffee and Italian soda beverages. And if you’re hungry, the cafe also has a selection of sweet treats. Waffles, crepes, mini pancakes and taiyaki, a popular Japanese pastry, are all available. Or you can grab a scoop of one of 12 ice cream flavors.
Joelle’s Soul and Savour
3015 Westfork Dr.
Look for Caribbean staples like braised oxtails with garlic mashed potatoes, jerk lamb chops, jerk chicken, plantains and pigeon peas and rice at this new restaurant off Sherwood Forest Boulevard. Creole and American favorites, including seafood gumbo, seafood pasta, burgers and various flavors of glazed, bone-in chicken wings, are also in play. For his boudin dip starter, Johnson uses pork boudin from Jerry Lee’s Cajun Foods, Louisiana crawfish tails and three different cheeses.
Dumpling Hour
7474 Corporate Blvd., Ste. 307
A new Asian-fusion restaurant is serving bao, noodles and lots of dumplings in Baton Rouge. Dumpling Hour, which started in Lafayette, opened its third location this month on Corporate Blvd. The restaurant is best known for handmade dumplings prepared in a variety of ways, including steamed, pan-fried and soup dumplings. All dumplings are made with fresh ingredients and prepared by the chef each day.
LIVIN Studio

Growing up surrounded by athletics has given Layla Kiffin a well-rounded perspective on fitness and wellness. Her new hot yoga studio, now open across the street from Tiger Stadium, reflects this balanced view. LIVIN Studio was a dream a long time in the making for Kiffin. Now, her studio features an infrared heated space for yoga, sculpt and strength classes.
