Planting the seed: Pumpkin patch picks for this fall
The pumpkin is an inescapable fall favorite. The seasonal spice is a welcome addition to beverages of all kinds, and the aroma wafts from our candles while the gourds themselves grace our front porches.

Girl Scouts’ Fall Fest and Pumpkin Patch
Girl Scout Louisiana East Fall Fest will be held on October 31 at Camp Marydale in Saint Francisville. The festival includes family-friendly activities such as Trunk-or-Treat, horse and pony rides, face painting and more. Tickets are available in two time slots: 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Additionally, the inaugural Pumpkin Patch Days will be hosted on October 17, 24 and 31. Tickets permit full-day entry, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Corn Maze at Burden
The Corn Maze at Burden Museum & Botanic Gardens is an expansive agricultural adventure, covering several portions of the land, including the corn maze, sunflower fields, pumpkin patch, petting farm and hay mountain. Tickets for their Corn Maze Weekends are on sale for every weekend in October. Night Maze is offered exclusively on October 30 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Baton Rouge General Pink Pumpkin Patch
Mysterious pink pumpkins pop up overnight at Baton Rouge General’s annual surprise patch. Baton Rouge General’s “Protect Your Pumpkins” campaign inspires the event, which promotes breast cancer awareness and receiving annual mammograms. Guests can take one free pink pumpkin, use the location as a photo op and enjoy local vendors. But be ready, the pumpkins go fast.
Jefferson United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch
A longstanding favorite, the JUMC pumpkin patch is also the church’s largest fundraising project. Volunteers assist by working the patch and making the charity donations possible. Proceeds support children’s ministries and Baton Rouge missions. The patch is open weekdays and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Trunk or Treat will be held Sunday, October 26, from 3 to 5 p.m.
