Things to do this week in Baton Rouge: Live music and a free film screening
Listen to throwback hits performed live Wednesday
Rock band BoDeans is making a stop in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, Sept. 16, as part of its 40th anniversary tour.
The band will play a two-and-a-half-hour show at Manship Theatre, performing hits from the 1980s to the 2020s to celebrate the anniversary of its debut album.
Tickets start at $36, and Manship Theatre is located at 100 Lafayette St. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
Watch a New Orleans jazz band Wednesday
Bassist and bandleader Peter Harris is bringing his all-star crew to Baton Rouge for a night of New Orleans jazz on Wednesday, Sept. 16, performed at the Cary Saurage Community Art Center.
The band consists of popular New Orleans musicians Ashlin Parker, Julian Lee, Seth Finch and Nygel Anderson.
Tickets begin at $12, and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. The Cary Saurage Community Arts Center is located at 233 St. Ferdinand St.
Hear the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra perform Thursday
On Thursday, Sept. 17, the Baton Rouge Symphony will kick off its eightieth season with a performance of Ellis Island: The Dream of America.
The show will last from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The main work, Ellis Island: The Dream of America, explores the stories of immigrants who came to the US between 1910 and 1940.
The show will be at the Raising Cane’s River Center Theatre, located at 240 St. Louis St. Tickets are available here.

Manship Theatre will host a screening of Walter Anderson: The Extraordinary Life and Art of the Islander, followed by a panel discussion featuring the director, filmmaker and the artist’s son on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m.
A reception and book signing will follow in the LSU Museum of Art to celebrate the opening of the museum’s exhibition, “The South’s Most Elusive Artist: Walter Inglis Anderson.”
Manship Theatre and the LSU Museum of Art are located at 100 Lafayette St. Attendance is free, but meal tickets are available here.
